Kāpēc tā? Jo ierasts, ka šajā gada laikā notiek Āzijas tūre, bet tā ir pilnībā atcelta…
Vienlaikus, arī vīriešu tūre atrodas līdzīgā stāvoklī. No kalendāra pazuduši deviņi rudens turnīri, taču spēlētajiem arī pēc “French Open” ir iespējas spēlēt un nopelnīt, jo atlikušas vēl 10 sacensības. Turklāt, četri turnīri ir iekļauti ārpus kārtas gadījumā tieši šī iemesla dēļ.
Kāpēc WTA nevarēja darīt to pašu? Jo vadība nav rīkojusies pietiekami izlēmīgi. Kā piemēru var minēt marta mēnesi, kad pandēmija pieņēmās spēkā. Tobrīd ATP vadība paziņoja par centralizētu turnīru atcelšanu, savukārt WTA ieņēma nogaidošu pozīciju un nesteigšanos atcelt vairāk sacensības skaidroja ar rūpēm par spēlētājām: “Mēs nevēlamies steigties un atcelt pusi sezonas. Mēs vēlamies rīkot šos turnīrus, kad vien tas būs iespējams. Mēs vēlamies, lai tenisistes spēlē, pelna naudu un reitinga punktus,” tā sacīja WTA vadītājs Stīvs Saimons.
Neskatoties uz to, vīriešu un sieviešu tenisa sezona tika atcelta praktiski vienā laikā. Tās spēlētājas, kuras nevēlējās doties uz ASV, varēja piedalīties turnīros Eiropā, bet tām, kas aizbrauca uz Ameriku, bija iespēja sagatavoties ASV atklātajam čempionātam ne tikai pārceltajā Ņujorkas turnīrā, bet arī papildus Leksingtonā. Vīriešiem tik lielas iespējas nebija, tāpēc liela daļa atsāka spēlēt tikai pēc “US Open”.
Turpmākā notikumu attīstība liecina, ka, visticamāk, tā bija vienkārši veiksme, nevis gudra plānošana no WTA vadības puses. Pēc “French Open” Ķelnē tika rīkoti divi ATP turnīri pēc kārtas, lai varētu aizpildīt kalendārā radušos “caurumus”. Ķelnes turnīra rīkotāja Barbara Ritnere sākotnēji cerējusi, ka vienās no sacensībām varētu startēt arī sievietes, taču WTA vadība reaģējusi pārāk kūtri. “Mēs vēlējāmies rīkot sieviešu un vīriešu turnīru vienu pēc otra. Sazinājāmies ar WTA vadību, taču viņi reaģēja pārāk lēni. Ja rīcība būtu bijusi aktīvāka, mēs noteikti uzspētu sarīkot sacensības arī sievietēm. Neskatoties uz to, mūsu galvenais mērķis bija noorganizēt divus turnīrus – šoreiz abi sanāca ar vīriešu dalību. Neko darīt – ja nenāk pretī, jāpieņem ir tas, ko tev dot. Tāpēc mēs piekritām.”
Te gan jāņem vērā arī cits apstāklis. Un tā nav seksisma pazīme, bet gan skaudrā realitāte – sieviešu teniss ienes daudz mazāk naudas nekā vīriešu. Tāpēc neizmantotā iespēja rīkot WTA turnīru Ķelnē raisa jautājumus, jo acīmredzot variantu kalendārā ielikt jaunas sacensības nebija daudz. Tā kā sieviešu turnīra ienākumi ir ievērojami zemāki nekā “Grand Slam” pasākumiem vai ATP, tas nozīmē, ka stimuls potenciālajiem turnīru rīkotājiem ir mazāks.
“US Open” laikā tika publiskota informācija par ATP vadība izstrādāto vīriešu tūres un tenisa kopumā stratēģiskās attīstības plānu. No šī dokumenta varēja uzzināt, ka profesionālais teniss (gan sieviešu, gan vīriešu) kalendārā gada ietvaros gūst ieņēmumus 2,2 miljardu dolāru (1,9 miljardu eiro) apmērā.
Kā rodas šī summa? 34% no kopējiem ieņēmumiem sastāv no biļešu tirdzniecības, 30% turnīru rīkošanas tiesības, 29% sponsoru nauda, bet 7% no citiem avotiem. WTA īpatsvars šajos 2,2 miljardos ir tikai 9%. ATP nopelna gandrīz četras reizes vairāk – 33%, bet līderi ir “Grand Slam” raudzes turnīri, kas ģenerē 58% no kopējās naudas.
Šo skaitļu dēļ viss uzreiz top skaidrs. Vienīgi netop skaidrs, kādēļ WTA vadība minstinājās organizēt turnīru Ķelnē. Jo alternatīvas vietas un iespējas, kur spēlēt un nopelnīt, nav un nebija… Top arī skaidrs kāpēc “Grand Slam” turnīru organizētāji tik ļoti vēlējās, lai, pat neskatoties uz pandēmiju un skatītāju daudzuma ierobežojumiem, sacensības tiktu aizvadītas. Tāpat ir skaidrs, ka šobrīd ir maz ticams, ka jaunie turnīri, kuri iepriekš kalendārā nebija, nesīs peļņu. Taču to organizatori var “ieķerties” kalendārā, kas dos iespēju nopelnīt naudu, kad situācija normalizēsies.
Ja vīriešu tūres organizācijas atbildīgās amatpersonas rīkojas patstāvīgi un cenšas veidot kaut ko paši, par ko liecina kaut vai iepriekš minētais ilgtermiņa attīstības plāns, tad WTA nekā tamlīdzīga nav. Pagaidām, skatoties no WTA pozīcijām, reālākais “veiksmes stāsta” scenārijs ir cerība, ka ATP spēs īstenot savu stratēģiju, kas ietver organizāciju apvienošanu un kopīgu tiesību pārdošanu.
